How to increase the daily WhatsApp message limit?

In this article, we’ll explain the limits on the number of messages you can send through the WhatsApp Business platform and how you can increase your limit to reach a larger audience. Let’s see how to do it 🙂

WhatsApp applies sending limits on the messages you can send based on a tier system. All new accounts start at tier 1 after passing the business verification process. You can automatically move up to the next tier based on the volume and quality of the messages you send. But be careful, you can be moved down a tier if users report or block more of your messages.

#DopplerTip: If you reach your sending limit, WhatsApp will mark your phone number as Restricted and block sending messages. This status is temporary and updates after 24 hours.

To move up to the next level, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Maintain your quality rating above average;
  • The cumulative number of users you send notifications to must add up to twice your current messaging limit within a 7-day period.

For example:

If you are currently at level 1 with a limit of 1,000 unique recipients every 24 hours, you will need to send a message to more than 2,000 recipients in 7 days and have a good reputation to automatically move up to level 2 and be able to send messages to up to 10,000 unique users every 24 hours.

How to request an increase?

You can do this manually, if you’ve completed business or identity verification, or you’ve hit the 1,000 conversation threshold in 30 days but the 250 business-initiated conversation limit still applies, you can open a Direct Support ticket (via WhatsApp) and request an upgrade to your messaging tier.

Or do it automatically, once you’ve hit the 1,000 brand-initiated conversation limit. So every time you open a conversation, we’ll determine if the limit should be increased based on the following criteria:

  • The business phone number is online.
  • The business phone number’s quality rating is medium or high.
  • In the past seven days, the business phone number has been used to open X or more business-initiated conversations, where X is the business phone number’s current messaging limit divided by 2.

If the business phone number meets all the conditions, we’ll increase its limit by one tier 24 hours later. However, if your quality rating has been set to flagged for the past seven days, we will reduce your limit by one level immediately.
