Why can spam filters be a problem to your Email Marketing Campaign?
OK, let’s start from the beginning. What are Spam filters? They are like some kind of cyber nets that will decide whether your emails are spam or not according to some technical and content criteria. If your emails are considered spam, they will go straight to Junk.
To understand this filters a little bit better lets take a look to the different criteria they are based upon:
Bayesian filtering: This filters detect words, sentences and even paragraphs that are commonly repeated on spam. For example, some of them might be: Free, BUY NOW or INCREDIBLE DISCOUNT. Don’t use them!
Image Percentage: Spam filters can’t read images, so they are kind of intolerant with them. When detecting nothing but an only big image in an email, they tend to think you’re trying to trick them including spammy content. And guess how they react? That’s right: sending your emails straight to Junk Box. So please, make sure you include text formats within your images.
Punctuation: No matter what awesome news you are trying to communicate, do not use many pointless admiration points OR WRITE EVERYTHING IN CAPITALS LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
White Lists: Ask your subscribers to add you to their lists! That way your sendings will have more chances of passing through spam filters.
Trends Analysis: Spamming filters have some kind of record about each sender’s history. And every time you submit a campaign you feed that record. So, the cleaner your sendings are, the better your reputation will be.
Email Service Provider Reputation: Choosing an Email Service Provider like Doppler, with the sufficient structure and a good reputation among spam filters is key, since it’s one of the most valued criteria when analyzing an Email.
Email Traffic: If you are sending many Emails at much speed you can be easily considered as spam. For example, sending tons of Emails to multiple recipients within a specific company (@acompany.com) will surely be detected by that company’s firewall as spam.
HTML Code: Including sloppy HTML code in your emails can activate spam filters. Remember to manually code your piece and never ever save a .doc/.docx file as an HTML.
